Eid Ceasefire Announced Amid Rising Pakistan-Afghanistan Tensions
After the request of Saudi Arab, Turkey and Qatar, Pakistan halted air strike action on Afghanistan for next few days and declared ceasefire amid the upcoming festival of Eid al-Fitr. This comes after a deadly Pakistani attack on an Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital in Kabul. According to Afghan officials 408 people have been killed in the airstrike. However, Pakistan claimed that it targeted a Taliban ammunition depot. On Wednesday, mass funerals were held in Kabul for unidentified victims. However, despite the agreed cease-fire, both Pakistan and Afghanistan are on high alert. Pakistan warned that it would resume airstrikes with renewed intensity in case of any provocation, while the Taliban government in Afghanistan vowed that it will respond courageously in case of any aggression.
